George Floyd’s Brother Reacts to the Guilty Verdict in the Trial of Derek Chauvin

It had to be incredibly painful for George Floyd’s older brother Philonise Floyd to sit in the courtroom during Derek Chauvin’s trial. He said that the worst part was watching the video of his brother’s death over and over again.

Philonise Floyd testified during the trial, and in the end, the verdict was what he was praying for. Chauvin was found guilty on all charges including unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

After the trial was over, Floyd reacted by saying, “This is monumental. This is historic. This is a pivotal moment in history.” He added, “Today has been an occasion where people can celebrate, but tomorrow is back to business.”

Even though he is obviously sad about his brother’s death, he finds comfort in the impact his brother’s death is having on the world. He explained, “My brother, man, he didn’t deserve it, but he has changed the world.”
