Soap opera actor Ron Hale, best known for his roles on Ryan’s Hope and General Hospital passed away. He was 78. A cause of death has not been shared. He died on August 27, according to his obituary online.
Born on January 2, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hale began his acting career in the early 1970s, making a name for himself in both film and television. However, he gained widespread recognition and a devoted fan base through his roles in two long-running soap operas: Ryan’s Hope and General Hospital.
Hale’s first major role in daytime television came in 1975 when he was cast as Dr. Roger Coleridge in the soap opera Ryan’s Hope, a role he would play for the next 13 years. Ryan’s Hope was set in New York City and followed the lives of an Irish-American family; Hale’s character was a central figure in the show’s narrative until its conclusion in 1989.
After Ryan’s Hope ended, Hale transitioned to General Hospital. In 1995, he joined the cast as Mike Corbin, the estranged father of Sonny Corinthos. Over the years, Hale’s portrayal of Mike explored themes of addiction, redemption, and familial love. His role on General Hospital lasted until 2011, when his character was written off the show.
