Fun Shapes Chicken Nuggets Recalled Due to ‘Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens’

Perdue Foods is back in the spotlight this week for food safety issues. One of the company’s chicken nugget products was mislabeled and contains an undeclared allergen.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Perdue announced that 16,000 pounds of the following item is being voluntarily recalled:

  • Perdue Fun Shapes Chicken Breast Nuggets 12-ounce package.  USE BY date MAR 11 2019 and lot codes 17009010 – 19009010.

The nuggets contain milk, which is considered an allergen, and it was not disclosed on the product label. The packages were produced in January 2019 and sold in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Washington, DC, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maine, and Vermont.

A retailer reported the label problem to Perdue and an investigation revealed that a label on the back part of the package was not applied correctly. There have be no reports of illness or injury from the product so far.

Customers are being asked to either throw the products away or return them to the store where they were purchased. This announcement follows a previous recall by Perdue for their Simplysmart Organics Gluten-Free nuggets due to wood contamination.

Consumers are urged to contact Perdue with any questions through their customer care line at 866.866.3703. Click on the video from CBS 2 to hear more!
