Fourth-Grader Who Survived Uvalde School Shooting Shares Gut-Wrenching Account Of What Gunman Said To Students

KHOU 11

Two days ago an 18-year-old Uvalde, Texas, resident shot his grandmother, stole her truck, crashed the truck, and then walked into an elementary school and started shooting.

The shooter was high school drop out Salvador Ramos. He lived with his grandparents and didn’t get along with his mother. He had recently celebrated his 18th birthday, and without telling his grandparents, he bought two guns as a birthday present to himself. He used one of those guns in the school shooting.

At Robb Elementary School, Ramos barricaded himself in a classroom where he shot multiple teachers and students. Two teachers and 19 students ended up dying. There were multiple other students who were injured, but some students managed to survive.

One 4th grade student who survived the shooting without any injuries wanted to tell his story. He was inside the classroom where the mass shooting happened, but his quick thinking saved his life and the life of his friend.

This 4th grader hid under a table that had a tablecloth over it, hiding him from the shooter’s view. The boy explained, “When I heard the shooting through the door, I told my friend to hide under something so he won’t find us.” He added, “I was hiding hard. And I was telling my friend to not talk because he is going to hear us.”

A total of 5 students hid under the table. While he didn’t see everything that happened in the classroom, he definitely heard everything that was going on. For example, he explained that when the police arrived, he heard one police officer say, “Yell if you need help!” Then he added, “One of the persons in my class said ‘help.’ The guy overheard and he came in and shot her.”

While that classmate got shot for listening to the police officer’s instruction, she also was able to alert the police officer to where the shooter was located. The boy explained, “The cop barged into that classroom. The guy shot at the cop. And the cops started shooting.”

After the shooting stopped, the boy finally crawled out from under the table. He said, “I got out with my friend.”
