Ford just announced the recall of more than 1 million vehicles in North America due to safety issues. The F-150 pickup truck has a transmission defect that causes it to downshift into first gear unexpectedly.

Owners of model years 2011 – 2013 with six-speed automatic transmissions are being alerted about the recall. The flaw can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. So far, the company is aware of five accidents due to the issue.

The automaker will notify all affected owners in writing by March 4, and according to their press release, dealers will update the powertrain control module software for these vehicles.

In addition to this recall, Ford issued two others today for the Lincoln Continental (model years 2017 – 2019) for a door latch safety issue and for select models of the 2019 Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus, and Lincoln Navigator. That latter vehicles are being recalled for instrumental panel clusters being blank.

This follows Ford’s recall last month for problems with the Takata airbag inflator. Consumers may contact Ford on their customer service line at 800.392.3673 or via the website:
