Can you die in a car accident without actually being in a car crash? Apparently, the answer is yes. A freak accident happened in Georgia that killed a 20-year-old woman who was riding in the passenger seat at the time. No car crash happened, yet the accident was deadly.

WTVC reports that the accident occurred on August 21, 2024 in Ringgold, Tennessee. Autumn McClure was sitting in the passenger seat while her boyfriend drove the car. McClure’s little brother was in the backseat of the car, and they were on their way to take him to daycare.

Suddenly, a brake part came loose on the vehicle in front of them, and the brake part flew into the windshield of their car, breaking the windshield and hitting McClure in the neck and chest.

A dispatch report described the accident as follows, “A small, gray passenger car… got a 21 year old female bleeding from the neck. Something’s flew through the window and hit her on the interstate.”

According to a Facebook post from McClure’s brother, Collin Le, she would have turned 21 in September. He describes his sister as “sweet and gentle,” and he urges everyone “to take a minute to call your loved ones/siblings.”

Le has also set up a GoFundMe to raise money for his sister’s funeral expenses. According to his description of the accident on the fundraising site, McClure died “before emergency services could arrive.” He also mentioned that the brake part that flew threw the windshield was a brake drum, and it had been in the truck bed of a truck in front of the vehicle.

McClure was studying graphic design at Chattanooga State Community College. Her brother shared that she “loved the beach and animals, especially her pets. She enjoyed going to concerts, paddle boarding, and hiking.” He added, “Words can not begin to describe how much she will be missed.”

On Facebook, he urged people who keep items in the back of their trucks to “please take a minute to evaluate the potential risk of those items flying out, causing injury to others.”
