Frasier’s revival has hit a roadblock, with Paramount+ choosing not to renew the Kelsey Grammer-led comedy for a third season. Producer CBS Studios plans to shop the series to other platforms, per Deadline. CBS has no space in its schedule for Frasier.

Potential new homes include Prime Video and Hulu, both of which already stream the original Frasier. Seasons 1 and 2 of the revival, along with the classic episodes, will stay available on Paramount+.

Paramount+ ordered Frasier to series in 2022, with James Burrows directing the pilot. Season 1 premiered in 2023, followed by Season 2 in September 2024. Despite its iconic title and Kelsey Grammer reprising his famous role, the show struggled to gain traction on Paramount+, which is better known for dramas like those in the Taylor Sheridan and Star Trek universes.

Frasier was the platform’s only multi-camera sitcom and one of just two original comedies, alongside the single-camera Colin From Accounts, an international co-production that is likely to continue.

The revival follows Frasier Crane, the beloved character Grammer originated on NBC’s Cheers and continued in the spinoff Frasier. In the new series, Frasier returns to Boston to face new challenges, build relationships, and pursue long-held dreams.

The cast of the Frasier revival features Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son, Freddy; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s college friend and now a university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro às Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David.

While the main cast is new, several familiar faces made guest appearances. Bebe Neuwirth returned as Frasier’s ex-wife, Lilith; Peri Gilpin reprised her role as Roz Doyle; Dan Butler appeared as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe; Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton; and Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier’s scheming agent, Bebe Glazer. At the Emmys last January, Kelsey Grammer expressed his hope to see Shelley Long return as Diane Chambers in a future season.

David Hyde Pierce chose not to return as Niles Crane in the new spinoff, disappointing many longtime fans of the original Frasier.

Kelsey Grammer is an acclaimed actor, producer, and director best known for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane, a character he originated on NBC’s Cheers and continued in the spinoff Frasier. Born on February 21, 1955, in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Grammer discovered his passion for acting during his time at Florida’s Pine Crest School and later honed his craft at the Juilliard School in New York City.

Grammer’s breakthrough came in 1984 when he joined Cheers as the intellectual yet socially awkward Frasier Crane, a role initially intended for a brief run. His performance resonated so deeply with audiences that the character became a series regular, ultimately leading to the highly successful spinoff Frasier (1993–2004). The series earned Grammer multiple Emmy Awards and solidified his place in television history.

Beyond Frasier, Grammer, 69, has enjoyed a prolific career in television, film, and theater. His TV credits include roles in Boss, The Simpsons (as the voice of Sideshow Bob), and Blue Bloods. On the big screen, he has appeared in films like X-Men: The Last Stand and Toy Story 2. Grammer has also demonstrated his theatrical talent on Broadway, earning acclaim for his performances in La Cage aux Folles and Finding Neverland.

In addition to acting, Grammer is a skilled producer and director, with credits including Girlfriends, Medium, and The Game. He is also an entrepreneur, owning Faith American Brewing Company.

Grammer’s personal life has been marked by both triumphs and challenges. He has been married four times and is the father of seven children.
