Aerosmith, an American rock band formed in Boston in 1970, is one of the most successful and enduring bands in the history of rock music.  This iconic band has announced they are retiring. They canceled their Peace Out farewell tour.

The band posted an announcement on Instagram stating they made a hard decision to retire from touring because lead singer Steven Tyler (76) is still suffering from a vocal cord injury from 2023.

The statement reads:

“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history. “

“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours.  In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. “

“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing.  As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other.  He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury.  We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth.  Play our music loud, now and always.  Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

In September 2023, frontman Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage and they had to reschedule their tour. The band had planned on picking up their farewell tour starting September 20 2024 through February 2025 and this has been canceled.

The original Aerosmith lineup features Steven Tyler (vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass), Joey Kramer (drums), and Brad Whitford (guitar). Their breakthrough came with the 1975 album “Toys in the Attic,” which included hits like “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way.”

Despite a successful early career, the late 1970s and early 1980s saw Aerosmith struggle with conflicts and substance abuse, leading to lineup changes. However, they made a remarkable comeback in the mid-1980s, with Perry and Whitford rejoining the band. Their collaboration with Run-D.M.C. on “Walk This Way” in 1986 gave new life to their band.

The band’s late 1980s and 1990s albums, including “Permanent Vacation,” “Pump,” and “Get a Grip,” produced numerous hits. Known for their stage presence, Aerosmith has sold over 150 million albums worldwide, won multiple Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
