A family of five died in a small plane crash on June 30, they had traveled to upstate New York for a youth baseball tournament.

A single-engine Piper Malibu Mirage plane left from Oneonta Municipal Airport, located in central New York, then crashed in Masonville, New York, This is roughly 90 to the Southeast of Syracuse.

The five victims of this tragic crash were identified as Roger Beggs, 76; Laura VanEpps, 43; Ryan VanEpps, 42; James R. VanEpps, 12; and Harrison VanEpps, 10.

The family was coming back to Georgia after spending time in Cooperstown, New York for a baseball tournament. This is also home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Local police reported that they received a report of a suspected crash at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday. They searched the Lake Cecil Road area with helicopters, drones, and ATVs before the crash site and the downed plane were found.

According to reports, Beggs was the pilot of the plane. The plane was enroute to refuel in West Virginia before flying to Atlanta.

Many friends and family have taken to Facebook with memories and condolences.

Georgia Governor, Brian Kemp  shared a post on X on Monday, July 1. “As we learn of this tragic news, please join Marty, the girls, and me in praying for the loved ones of the Beggs and VanEpps families. We offer our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved them,” he said.

There was also a post from Ryan Van Epps sister Ansley. She expressed her sorrow at the loss of her family members.

The FAA, National Transportation Board and the state police are all working together in an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
