‘ER’ Actress Mary Mara Dead at 61 After Tragically Drowning In NY River

An untimely death is always troubling and startling. It makes us ask questions like why and how? Unfortunately, another untimely death was discovered on Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the New York State Police, on Sunday morning around 8:10am, police arrived at the scene to investigate “a reported possible drowning.” They discovered the body of a female in the St. Lawrence River. They were able to identify the body as actress Mary Mara, who was 61 years old.

Mara had been staying with her sister, Martha Mara, over the summer. It appears that she decided to go swimming. Her sister’s house is close to the St. Lawrence River.

According to police, “The preliminary investigation suggests the victim drowned while swimming. The victim’s body showed no signs of foul play and was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.”

Mara’s manager, Craig Dorfman, told The Washington Post that the outpouring of love for Mara since the news of her death has been “extraordinary.” He described her as “electric, funny, and a true individual, and devoted to her family. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”
