Emilio Estevez Is Returning As Gordon Bombay in First Peek at New ‘Mighty Ducks’ Series

Everybody’s favorite childhood coach is gearing up to skate back into our hearts in a new Disney+ reboot.

Emilio Estevez will be reprising his role as peewee hockey coach Gordon Bombay in the 10-episode series called “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.” The streaming service gave fans a taste of what to expect in the show’s first trailer, which was released on Jan. 28.

The clip features the beloved peewee coach repairing a Zamboni machine at a run-down rink called The Ice Palace. In the scene, he meets Alex (Lauren Graham), who’s decided to start her own youth hockey team after her son Evan (Brady Noonan) is cut from the competitive Mighty Ducks roster.

Desperate to keep her son involved in the sport, Alex convinces Evan to play for the love of the game. She tells her son all they need is an ice rink, which is where Coach Bombay comes into the picture.

Alex and Gordon become invested in coaching the Minnesota-based team, which consists of Evan and his friends. Like the original team Gordon coached, they are considered the underdogs.

“You gotta make this happen for yourself,” Gordon tells Evan.

Estevez’s return was announced by Disney+ back in February of last year. In the original “Ducks” franchise, the actor played a lawyer-turned-coach after being sentenced to complete 500 hours of community service following a DUI charge.

The first movie was released in 1992 and became a feel-good franchise that ran throughout the 90s. Last year, Estevez told US Weekly he was thrilled to be lacing up his old skates once again.

“Once a Duck, always a Duck!,” Estevez said. “After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket, and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in ‘The Mighty Ducks’ franchise.”

The teaser for the series ends with Evan firing a shot on goal. With a coach like Gordon Bombay, we can only assume his skill level and confidence go through the roof during the series. Remember when Charlie Conway, played by Joshua Jackson, pulled a triple deke move to win against the Hawks in the first film? Epic.

Fans of the franchise can catch “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” when it premieres on Friday, March 26. Both Estevez and Graham are executive producers of the series.
