Ellen DeGeneres Continues to Struggle With Backlash and Accusations That She’s Not a Nice Person

When we think of Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show, we think of Ellen dancing on the stage, a big smile on her face. We think of how friendly she is to her guests and how she encourages viewers to be kind. The Ellen we see on TV appears to be very happy, optimistic and kind.

Is that the real Ellen?

Some sources have come forward to say that the real Ellen is quite different than the TV personality we see on her talk show. For example, her former bodyguard has described her as “dehumanizing.”

Then, in April, after beauty YouTuber Nikkie de Jager (a.k.a. NikkieTutorials) appeared on Ellen’s show, the blogger described the talk show host as “cold and distant.”

To make matters worse, Ellen received even more criticism after she joked that being quarantined in her $27 million mansion during the coronavirus pandemic was like being “in jail.”

With Safer at Home orders putting the show in limbo, many employees of the show have also complained about how the show has handled the coronavirus situation. They have not been kept updated on the status of their hours or pay. Then they found out that they should expect a pay cut because Ellen was hiring her own non-union crew to film a quarantine version of the show at her home.

How has Ellen been handling all of the negative things people have been saying about her?

At first, it sounds like she didn’t let it get to her. One source told US Weekly, “She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.” After multiple “hits,” Ellen is reportedly “at the end of her rope.”

One bright spot is that Ellen has her wife, Portia de Rossi, to stand by her. A source told US Weekly, “Ellen’s so grateful to have Portia in her life as a soulmate and a sounding board.” Yet, it sounds like everything isn’t perfect at home either. The source went on to say, “Their home life is strained right now.”

What does all of this mean for Ellen and the future of her show?

Ratings are what really matter, and Ellen’s ratings have been going up showing that the show is not in jeopardy. The same source that talked about Ellen’s relationship with Portia believes that a bodyguard and a blogger are not going to change the public perception of Ellen. This source has the following advice for Ellen:

“Her best response is just being happy Ellen on the show every day.”
