Get a Look at This Unique Decked Out Home in a Bus

The surge in vehicle-to-home conversions is making it possible for many people to travel in comfort and style. Being able to customize an old car, van, or bus as living quarters is creative, yet also a way to save on vacation expenses. But how about the idea of an immobile home for staycations or guests?

You may ask— aren’t all homes immobile? No. Especially if it’s a grounded double-decker bus that’s had its wheels removed. UK couple Andrew and Lisa-Jane Powis turned an old bus found on eBay into a two-level vacation home.

The couple shared that they were having trouble finding travel accommodations that were dog-friendly. In the video, Lisa-Jane explains that they purchased the bus with the intention of using it as a motor home to travel with their children and pets. Since those plans fizzled out, they decided to convert it and moved it to the countryside as a vacation home for themselves and renters. The bus now is a three-bedroom home that is perfect for short stays.

After initially finding the bus on eBay and purchasing it for approximately $3,800 (USD), it sat in storage for three years. Andrew and Lisa-Jane finally made the decision to convert it into a house and spent about $23,000 to do so. The project took six weeks and once completed, they opened it up to vacationers looking to rent.

Nicknamed Betsy Blue, the house boasts luxuries like an outdoor hot tub, WiFi, and of course year-round heating for those cold nights. A large flat screen TV can be seen hanging on the wall in the seating area, and Lisa-Jane notes that there’s also a DVD player. What we don’t see of lot of in these projects are full kitchens. Along with a fridge, this one is equipped with a four-burner electric range and a dishwasher!

There’s enough countertop space to fit a toaster oven, bread maker, and food canisters. A sizeable eating nook frames the back of the bus, which looks like it doubles as a lounge area. Overhead lighting is seen throughout the kitchen area, and plenty of windows allow natural light to flow in. The downstairs area also has a full bathroom and a wood burning stove that provides heat.

The upper level features two single bedrooms, and an additional one with bunk beds for the children. A twin-size bed sits in one room, and a double bed is in the main bedroom. Windows also line the entire perimeter upstairs,  letting sunshine into all the rooms. Wooden doors for each bedroom maintain privacy for the family and visitors.

For guests, Lisa-Jane and Andrew made sure the rural setting allows for an animal-friendly place to stay. Guests are welcome to bring their pets, and even horses can come through and frolic. Andrew further sells it when he mentions a nearby pub within walking distance and Indian restaurant with free delivery. I’m in! What are your thoughts on this two story vacation cottage?
