Disney Confirms That ‘Sister Act 3’ Will Feature Whoopi Goldberg As Deloris Van Cartier

Back in 1992, the movie “Sister Act” was released on the silver screen. The movie told the story of a woman named Deloris Van Cartier, a singer from Reno, Neveda, who was played by Whoopi Goldberg.

Deloris’s world changed forever when she saw her boyfriend kill a mob informant. She ended up in the witness protection program in a place where nobody would ever look for her – a nunnery. It took her awhile to adjust to life pretending to be a nun, but instead of just adjusting, she helped the nuns learn to sing like they never knew they could.

The hit movie was followed by a sequel in 1993 titled, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.” This time, Deloris found herself teaching at a Catholic school.

It has been almost 30 years since the Sister Act movies were released, but we’ve been holding out hope all this time that there would be another Sister Act movie one day.

Disney announced on Twitter that Sister Act 3 is officially happening, and Goldberg will be back in the lead role!

Instead of being a theatrical release, Sister Act 3 will be released on Disney’s subscription streaming service, Disney+.

For this new movie, Goldberg will be more than just the lead actress. She will also be one of the producers along with Tyler Perry.

Disney has yet to release any details about the plot, but it’s probably safe to assume there will lots of singing and dancing while Goldberg wear’s a traditional nun’s habit.

Are you excited about the upcoming Sister Act movie?  What do you think the plot will be for this third movie?
