Designer Transforms Volkswagen Beetle Into 2 Adorable Minibikes

You know the phrase “one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure?” The idea is that something that’s complete trash to one person can be exactly what someone else was looking for. Well, we think that philosophy definitely applies to Brent Walter.

The man defines himself on his Instagram page @walter_werks as a “maker and builder of a variety of things.” It’s a pretty simple bio, but his photos and mission really explain what he means—and why he’s recently made headlines.

While Brent is definitely a “maker and builder of a variety of things,” it’s much more impressive than it sounds. We’d probably refer to him more as an “innovative upcycler” or “creative recreator.”

Okay enough already—what did Brent make that’s making everyone go wild?

Brent created two minibikes using the fenders from two old Volkswagen beetles and scooters. Voila: a new mode of transportation has been created using recycled parts that’s both adorable, fun, and anyone (kids and adults alike) would have fun riding on.

While Brent has only completed two minibikes so far, he started documenting the process on his Instagram when he began just about a year ago. He started building the contraptions in his garage, documenting each stage in the process as he went. Today, his page has grown to nearly 30,000 followers since.

Brent recently shared the final product, which he deemed the “Volkspods,” and his followers can’t seem to get enough of them. They’re just the coolest things ever!

The minibike contraptions are built off the base from tiny 79cc Volkswagen engines, which produces 6.5 horsepower. The engine is then mounted to an also-small frame, which is then topped with the Volkswagen fender. A bulbous head with a large headlight and wide handlebars complete the retro look.

As the last step, Walter painted the Volkspods a pastel blue and birch green color, otherwise known as the original colors of the Volkswagen beetle, which really made his car fans happy.

See for yourself below just how cute these things are!
