Demi Lovato Suggests That Calling Extraterrestrials “Aliens” Could Be Offensive
In the trailer for their new docuseries, “Unidentified with Demi Lovato,” they explain that they had “a strange experience” where they saw a bright light move in odd ways that a plane wouldn’t be able to move. It made them wonder what it was and if it could have been an extraterrestrial. Along with their sister and their best friend, they are on a mission to find out.
In an interview promoting the new series, Lovato explained that they never refer to extraterrestrials as “aliens.” They believe the word “aliens” is always used in an offensive way, and they think extraterrestrials would probably be offended by the word as well. They explained, “I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything.”
While the word “extraterrestrials” can be a mouthful to say, Lovato prefers to refer to them simply as “ETs.” Perhaps we should consider doing the same the next time we encounter an ET.
While it might seem surprising to us that Lovato is searching for extraterrestrial life, it’s been a long time coming for them. In an interview with Pedestrian.TV, they explained that they have believed in ETs their whole life. “And I just thought, you know, I’m in a position in my career right now where I’m dipping my toes into a lot of different waters. And this was just kind of a natural next step. I wanted to film everything that goes down when I go and search for these UFOs so that my fans can come along for the ride.”
Lovato isn’t afraid of ET life. They explained, “I think that if there were beings that could harm us, we would have been gone a long time ago.”
Lovato wants to break negative stereotypes about ETs. They believe not using the word “aliens” to describe them is a step in the right direction. They also believe we need to stop thinking of ETs as harmful and dangerous.
If you’re a fan of Lovato’s music, no need to worry. They are not giving up their singing career to search for ETs full time. They plan to get back to recording music very soon.
Do you believe in ETs? Do you think ETs would find the word “alien” offensive?
