When traveling, it is always a good idea to be aware of your surroundings, and it might also be a good idea to leave expensive and sentimental items at home so they don’t get lost or stollen.
In 2022, a 25-year-old man named Frederik de Vreese, who is from Belgium, was visiting Bangkok, Thailand. While he was there, he had his cell phone out to take a video of the nightlife in the area. Not only did he capture the nightlife, but he also happened to capture a crime as it happened.
While he was walking down the street with his phone in his hand and video recording on selfie mode, a woman approached him and wrapped her arms around him. This was a woman he had never met.
The woman suggested going back to his hotel room with him, but he brushed her away. It wasn’t until after the woman had walked away that he realized why she really approached him and what she had done.
The young man had been wearing a gold chain around his neck. Shortly after the woman left, he realized his gold chain was missing. He watched the video he had taken when the woman walked up to him, and it clearly showed the woman fiddling with his chain and removing it from his neck. He was shocked that she had stollen his chain so quickly.
The woman was wearing a face mask, so her face was partially hidden, but she had a distinctive tattoo on her back that de Vreese hopes will help the police find her and his missing chain. He explained that the chain was not only quite valuable (worth about 800 euros or $863.75), but it was also quite sentimental considering it used to belong to his grandfather.
Watch the video below to see the female thief approach de Vreese and steal his chain on camera.
