Costco Wholesale Corporation is a leading global membership-based warehouse club known for offering a wide range of quality products at competitive prices. Headquartered in Issaquah, Washington, the retailer’s business model centers on bulk purchasing and a streamlined selection of goods, allowing it to maintain low operating costs and pass significant savings on to its members.
The company is on track to exceed 900 locations worldwide with several new warehouses scheduled to open in early March. In December, the retailer based in Issaquah, Washington, announced plans to launch 29 new locations during its fiscal year ending August 31, 2025. According to USA Today, six of these will debut next month in the United States.
Currently, the company operates 897 warehouses—with 617 situated in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. With the upcoming six U.S. openings, the total will rise to 903. Beyond its U.S. presence, Costco’s international footprint includes 109 locations in Canada, 41 in Mexico, 36 in Japan, 29 in the U.K., 19 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, 7 in China, 5 in Spain, 2 in France, plus one each in Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden.
At its core, Costco emphasizes a “treasure hunt” shopping experience, where members can discover a mix of everyday items and limited-time offerings, including exclusive products under its Kirkland Signature brand. This strategy, coupled with a focus on operational efficiency and bulk sales, has solidified Costco’s reputation as a serious competitor in the retail sector. The Store appeals to individual consumers as well as small businesses around the globe.
