Crayola Has Created ‘Colors of the World’ Crayons That Can Finally Represent All Skin Tones

Coloring books are great and all, but have you ever struggled to find the perfect skin tone shade in a box of crayons? Even the largest box of crayons out there seems extremely limited on skin tone colors. No matter what color your skin is, you can probably relate.

Crayola has finally heard the exasperated of cries of children around the world who simply want to color a picture that accurately represents what they really look like. In response, the crayon company has created a box of 32 crayons called “Colors of the World.” In the box, you’ll find 24 crayons that represent a vast array of skin tones with easy to understand names like medium almond, light golden and very dark rose. The box also includes 8 crayons designed to recreate hair and eye colors.

In a press release, Crayola CEO Rich Wuerthele explained the goal behind the crayons.

“With the world growing more diverse than ever before, Crayola hopes our new Colors of the World crayons will increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance. We want the new Colors of the World crayons to advance inclusion within creativity and impact how kids express themselves.”

In addition to the Colors of the World set of crayons, Crayola is also releasing a Colors of the World Coloring & Activity Book. The 48-page book features pictures of landmarks in 20 different countries and gives kids the opportunity to color pictures of people from all over the world.

Both the Colors of the World crayon set and coloring book are available for preorder at Walmart.com. The crayons and coloring book are set to ship in early July. At just $1.77 for the crayons, and $1 for the coloring book, you can’t go wrong. We think this is a great way to keep our kids busy, creative and having fun during the summer break from school.
