CNN and ‘Sesame Street’ Will Host a Town Hall to Discuss Coming Together and Standing Up to Racism

While racism, social injustice and protests and can difficult for adults to talk about with their children, it is necessary, and some children’s programming is trying to help parents open the conversation in an age-appropriate way.

First, we saw Nickelodeon pause their regular programming with a very important message in support of equality and fairness. Now, CNN and Sesame Street are partnering together to host a town hall.

If Sesame Street and CNN partnering for a town hall sounds familiar, that’s because there was one not too long ago. On April 25th, there was a town hall for kids and parents where the topic was COVID-19. The idea was to help parents explain COVID-19 to their kids and to answer common questions kids have about the pandemic.

Now, parents and kids can plan to tune into a very special town hall called “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism. A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Families.” The show will discuss racism, diversity and the recent protests.

The town hall will be moderated by CNN commentator Van Jones and CNN anchor and national correspondent Erica Hill. Sesame Street residents Big Bird, Elmo, Rosita and Abby Cadabby will also be at the town hall.

Parents can tune into the town hall on Saturday June 6th at 10am E.T. on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español. It can also be viewed via live stream on any computer or mobile device at CNN.com. In addition, the town hall will be available to watch at CNNgo and on demand.

Parents can submit any questions that they would like to have answered during the town hall by filling out a form at CNN’s website. These can include questions about how to talk to your kids about racism and diversity as well as questions that your kids have about racism, equality and the recent protests.
