More and More Women Are Citing Climate Change as Their Reason for Not Having Children
Before a couple gets married, it’s usually a good idea for them to discuss whether or not they want to have children and how many children they would like to have. Having drastically different views on the subject could potentially be a deal-breaker when it comes to marriage.
Blythe Pepino used to dream of becoming a mom one day; however, she and her partner have since changed their minds. They are not giving up the chance to be parents due to any medical reasons or financial reasons. They are giving up their chance to be parents to save the planet.
As parents, we want to give our children things that we wish we had when we were children. We want to help them learn and become productive citizens who will live long, wonderful, happy lives. Basically, we want the best for them.
Pepino is an environmentalist, and after looking at the facts about damage that humans have done to planet Earth and about the state of the future of the plant our children will be inheriting, she believes it is for the best not to have children at all.
She’s not the only one. Alice Brown is another environmentalist who has decided not to have children in order to save the planet. She said that it’s hard when she sees other families with little children because she always wanted that for herself, but she and her partner agree that it’s the right decision for the planet if they don’t start a family.
Brown and Pepino are quick to say that they aren’t judging other people who decide to have children, but it’s a personal decision for them.
“This Morning” co-host Phillip Schofield asked Brown and Pepino, “Specifically is this you’re not having children because you don’t want to bring them up in the planet we are about to inhabit or you don’t want to increase the population?”
Watch the video below to hear their answer and to hear tips about what we can all do to help the planet even if we already have children or aren’t willing to give up having children in the future.
What do you think about Brown and Pepino’s decision not to have children? Is this a decision you would consider? What are you doing to benefit the planet?
