Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend have two children, Luna, who is 5, and Miles, who is 3. Teigen was pregnant with a third child, who they had been calling Jack, but she lost the pregnancy.

Teigen’s children were conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF), which is the most common assisted reproductive technology that women use to get pregnant when there are fertility issues. In an emotional Instagram post, Teigen shared that she is undergoing IVF once again.

Teigen wrote, “I posted about it in my stories, but I wanted to let you guys know I’m balls deep in another IVF cycle to save as many eggos as I possibly can and hopefully make some strong, healthy embryos.”

One big reason Teigen shared that she is undergoing IVF is to explain that she doesn’t want anyone to ask her if she is pregnant. She wrote, “I honestly don’t mind the shots…they make me feel like a doctor/chemist…but the bloating is a bitch, so I humbly beg you to stop asking if I’m pregnant because while I know it’s said with excited, good intentions, it just kind of sucks to hear because I am the opposite of pregnant!”

Teigen doesn’t want people to just stop asking her if she is pregnant. She’s taking it further. She wants people to stop asking any women if they’re pregnant.

If you are a woman who has ever been asked if you’re pregnant when you’re not, you know how hurtful that can be. On the one hand, you could take it as someone saying you look fat. On the other hand, it could cut even deeper if you suffered pregnancy loss or are trying to get pregnant but have yet to have a successful pregnancy.

Teigen explained, “But also like please stop asking people, anyone, if they’re pregnant. I said this in the comments and got yelled at because the internet is wild but I’d rather be the one to tell you and not some poor woman who will look you in the eyes through tears and that’s how you finally learn.”

According to the CDC, approximately 12% of married women between the ages of 15 and 44 have trouble getting pregnant. After a year of trying and failing to get pregnant, it’s recommended that couples seek advice from a doctor.

Have you ever asked someone if they were pregnant and they weren’t? Have you ever been asked if you were pregnant when you weren’t? Do you think it’s rude to ask a woman if she’s pregnant?
