Chris Cuomo Has Been Suspended by CNN “Indefinitely, Pending Further Evaluation”

At the beginning of the pandemic, CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo had his brother, Andrew Cuomo, on his 9pm show on a regular basis. CNN encouraged this and thought it was helpful and reassuring for people to see New York‘s Governor interact with his younger brother on air. However, covering news stories where there is a conflict of interest is usually discouraged.

Andrew Cuomo has resigned as Governor of New York due to the controversy surrounding him. He has been accused of sexual harassment, although, he claims to be innocent.

Previously, Chris Cuomo admitted to CNN that he offered his brother advice. After all, they are brothers. However, he claimed that he was not acting in any way as his brother’s advisor. He remained at CNN, and he also remained the most popular anchor at the news network.

On Monday, Cuomo spoke on air about his involvement with his brother and said, “It was a mistake, because I put my colleagues here, who I believe are the best in the business, in a bad spot. I never intended for that, I would never intend for that, and I am sorry for that.”

Being sorry wasn’t good enough. It appears that Cuomo may have broken too many of CNN’s rules. On Tuesday, CNN was able to see documents they had not had access to before. These documents show that Chris Cuomo may have been a lot more involved in trying to help his brother than he let on. In a statement, CNN announced, “we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.”

On Tuesday’s broadcast, Anderson Cooper filled in for Cuomo at 9pm. There is no word about how CNN plans to fill the time slot while Cuomo is suspended.

Do you think Chris Cuomo will end up being fired by CNN? Have you ever watched his news show? Do you think it’s true that he was more involved with helping his brother than was appropriate for a news anchor? Do you think Andrew Cuomo is guilty?
