The job of an actor or actress is to be able to play any role. In one movie they might be a bratty high school drama queen and in the other, they may be fighting in a World War II. That’s the fun of it—or is it?

As it turns out, many celebrities are actually pretty frustrated with some of the characters they’re known for playing, and even their movies too.

Never thought of it that way, huh? Get ready to find a whole new perspective on celebrities.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow as Rosemary in ‘Shallow Hal’

   It really made her feel for people who are rejected because of their weight. ““The first day I tried the fat suit on, I was in the Tribeca Grand and I walked through the lobby. It was so sad. It was so disturbing,” she said. “No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese. For some reason the clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive.”

2. Penn Badgley as Joe in ‘You’

   The main character of “You” is a pretty ruthless dude—and Badgley knows it and isn’t quite a fan, especially in the second season. “He’s always saying, ‘If only I could show you who I really am. Up until that point, he’s never been able to do that…Then he gets it, and he’s a total d*ck about it. That was when I was like, ‘Joe, I’ve never liked you less! I’ve never liked you less.’”

3. Kate Winslet as Rose in ‘Titanic’

   Titanic is one of the top-rated movies of all time, so why the hate? Well, it’s mostly self-critical. “Every single scene, I’m like ‘Really, really? You did it like that?’ Oh my God…Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful,” Winslet said.

4. Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen in ‘Twilight’

   Sure, a lot of people are Cullen fans…except the person who played him: “”He’s the most ridiculous person…the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy…” he said. “Plus, he’s a 108 year-old virgin so he’s obviously got some issues there.”

5. Allison Williams as Marnie in ‘Girls’

   If you wouldn’t be friends the character you play, then you probably aren’t going to like that character you play. “Marnie would drive me crazy if we were friends in real life,” Williams said. “But I have to put that out of my head in order to play her. Like, sleeping with Elijah (Andrew Rannells) is crazy, sleeping with Ray (Alex Karpovsky) is crazy, furiously hitting on Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) when he mentions his girlfriend in their first conversation is crazy; but I have to be on the couch with her and Elijah hoping they fuck, I have to be in that apartment with Ray kinda wanting it to happen, and I have to support her quest for Desi.”

6. Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes in ‘Transformers’

   It may have been the movie that began her career, but it doesn’t mean it was one she was most proud of by any means. “People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting. And once you realize that, it becomes almost fun because you can be in the moment and go, ‘All right, I know that when he calls ‘Action!’ I’m either going to be running or screaming, or both.'”

7. Blake Lively as Serena Van Der Woodsen on ‘Gossip Girl’

   The character was just not how she’d act in real life at all. “It’s a weird thing when people feel like they know you really well, and they don’t,” Lively said. “I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend.”

8. Mark Wahlberg as Eddie Adams in ‘Boogie Nights’

   Wahlberg has said that God probably wouldn’t be able to forgive him for this movie mistake. “I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving because I’ve made some poor choices in my past.” He said. “Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list.”

9. Kelly Clarkson as Kelly in ‘From Justin to Kelly’

   Clarkson was once asked in an interview if she would burn all the copies of this film, and she said she’d have to own it to do that. She then followed up with this anecdote: “I have a little joke with our nanny, because she told me she loves that movie. She was like, ‘My roommate and I used to watch it all the time! I’m totally going to show your daughter From Justin to Kelly.’ I’m like, ‘I will fire you.'”

10. Cher in ‘Burlesque’

    Cher was not impressed. “It could have been a much better film,” she said. “It was always sad that it was not a good film.”

11. Katherine Heigl as Alison in ‘Knocked Up’

    A fan favorite, and yet, Heighl can’t stand the stereotype her character was portrayd as. “It was a little sexist,” she said. “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight. I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a b*tch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”

12. Sally Field as Aunt May in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

    Her comment about it is enough said: “It’s really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it, and you work it as much as you can, but you can’t put ten pounds of sh*t in a five-pound bag.”

13. Colin Farrell as Crockett in ‘Miami Vice’

    “Miami Vice? I didn’t like it so much,” Farrell said. “I thought it was style over substance and I accept a good bit of the responsibility.”

14. Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars & Stripes in ‘Kick-Ass 2’

    For this one, the timing was all off. “I did Kick-Ass a month before Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence,” Carey said.

15. Jason Bateman as Nick in ‘Horrible Bosses 2’

    He may have liked his role in the first Horrible Bosses, but regrets being in the sequel. “The second one was garbage, as far as box office goes,” he said. “Who knows whether it was on the merits or when they released it, but it did not do any money.”
