Actor John Corbett, best known for his roles on “Sex and the City” and “Northern Exposure” regrets his Hollywood acting career. Corbett was a guest on a “Fly on the Wall” podcast and told hosts Dana Carvey and David Spade that he would have rather been a screenwriter or producer. He wanted to work behind the scenes.

“Look, I’m in the fourth quarter of the football game now, in life and in showbiz. It’s just a fact. So I can reveal now I picked the f—ing wrong thing to do with my life,” Corbett said.

“Have you ever sat in a fucking waiting room of a doctor’s office for like an hour and been like, ‘What the fuck?’” Corbett continued. “For me, that’s what making a movie is like, because I’m not part of any creative process.”

“I’ve made a lot of money. I live in a beautiful home. People come to me at every restaurant I go to. I’m a friend of the world … But as far as a fulfilling creative work life, I didn’t write one fucking line. I didn’t write one joke that made people laugh. So it’s been unfulfilling on that level.”

Corbett’s acting career took off with a role in the television series Northern Exposure, which aired from 1990 to 1995. Portraying the disc jockey Chris Stevens, Corbett earned a large fan following and a Golden Globe nomination.

Following “Northern Exposure,” Corbett landed another significant role as Aidan Shaw, a furniture designer and Carrie Bradshaw’s love interest, in the iconic HBO series Sex and the City.

Corbett’s film career includes notable roles in movies such as “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (2002), in which he played Ian Miller, the charming fiancé of Toula Portokalos. The film was a massive commercial success and remains one of the highest-grossing romantic comedies of all time. Corbett also played a role in the sequel, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” in 2016.

The down to earth actor has maintained a relatively low-profile personal life despite his fame. He has been in a long-term relationship with actress Bo Derek since 2002, and the couple married in December 2020.
