In a delightful twist of Hollywood lore, Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves continue to call each other “husband” and “wife” in their text messages over three decades after they may have been married for real on the set of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula.”

Ryder, who recently shared this charming tidbit on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, revealed that despite not having a legal marriage certificate, their on-screen nuptials may have had real-life implications.

“I would literally do anything though with him. Like he is so special,” Ryder expressed, though she added that she might skip any future projects involving intense stunts, like a “John Wick” film, due to her concerns about her own physical safety.

The connection between Ryder and Reeves is both personal and professional. Their chemistry was first showcased in the 1992 gothic horror film “Dracula,” where they played Jonathan and Mina Harker.

During the film, they underwent a wedding scene that was performed by a real Romanian priest, a detail that led to speculation about their real-life marital status. Ryder recalled during a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, “We actually got married in ‘Dracula’. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So, I think we’re married.”

Reeves, while initially fuzzy on the specifics of the scene, later concurred with Ryder’s playful assertion. “We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests. Winona says we are, Coppola says we are, so I guess we’re married under the eyes of God,” Reeves admitted.

Despite their playful exchange about their on-set marriage, Ryder and Reeves have maintained a deep friendship. Ryder disclosed that they still text regularly, keeping their endearing routine alive.

On Reeves’ birthday, she texted, “Happy birthday, my husband.” Reeves responded with affection, noting his age with a playful twist, “Hey, my wife, I love you. KR 57.” This personal touch highlights their ongoing camaraderie and affection for each other.

Their collaboration extends beyond “Dracula.” The two stars reunited in the 2018 romantic comedy “Destination Wedding” and previously worked together in Richard Linklater’s “A Scanner Darkly.” Their professional relationship seems to have only strengthened their bond.

In her podcast interview, Ryder also reflected on her experiences with another influential co-star, Daniel Day-Lewis, from their work on Martin Scorsese’s 1993 drama “The Age of Innocence.”

She recalled Day-Lewis’s humorous advice during a press junket: “When I was doing the press junket for ‘Age of Innocence,’ Daniel Day-Lewis gave me the best advice because we were both like going through stuff at the time. He’s like, just keep talking so they can’t ask you [questions]…just ramble. I was like, ‘Oh!’ That was sort of funny but I am like a natural… if I connect with someone you just get to talking.”

Whether they are legally bound or not, the enduring affection and playful exchanges between Ryder and Reeves demonstrate a unique and heartwarming aspect of their relationship that fans continue to adore.
