Camilla Gives Rare Candid Interview About Her Life With Prince Charles
One of the biggest things Camilla, 75, touched on was how much she dealt with from the media due to the divorce of Charles and his first wife, the late Princess Diana. In fact, that was one of the hardest times of her life. But in the end, she says it made her stronger.
“It’s not easy,” she said. “I was scrutinized for such a long time that you just have to find a way to live with it. Nobody likes to be looked at all the time and, you know, criticized … But I think in the end, I sort of rise above it.”
Camilla and Prince Charles got married in 2005, but they met back in 1970s. They had remained good friends even though both were married at the time. Both marriages ended in the mid-1990s.
As far as their marriage now, due to the two having very tight schedules, so it can be hard to spend quality time together. However, they always make it happen, and it’s one of the biggest highlights to Camilla’s day.
“It’s not easy sometimes, but we do always try to have a point in the day when we meet,” she said. “Sometimes it’s like ships passing in the night, but we always sit down together and have a cup of tea and discuss the day. We have a moment. It’s lovely to catch up when we have a bit of time.”
One of her favorite ways to spend time together is actually one that some people might deem not spending time together at all: She loves to just sit in the same room as Charles, even ig they’re doing different things.
“You know when we go away, the nicest thing is that we actually sit and read our books in different corners of the same room. It’s very relaxing because you know you don’t have to make conversation. You just sit and be together.”
Adorable!
In the interview, Camilla also discussed what it would be like when she becomes queen consort. In February, Queen Elizabeth II requested that due to Camilla’s “loyal service” that she become queen consort when Charles becomes king.
