This Calf Is in Danger, So Its Worried Mother Asks for Help from a Complete Stranger
What we don’t see as often is a mother animal ask a human for help. We often think that a mother animal might be too protective of her young and not want a human to interfere, but sometimes animals realize when they need assistance.
Dave likes taking videos as a sort of hobby, and one day he brought his video camera with him to record some cows that were drinking water at a nearby farm. Dave knew the owners of the farm, and he knew that they took good care of their cows, letting them roam free and live a good life.
What was odd about this particular day was that one cow was standing near the electrical fence that prevented the cows from wandering out to the road. She didn’t seem very happy. Dave assumed that she was upset that he was there, so he backed away from the fence to give her space. She kept pacing back and forth near the fence. This particular cow’s name was Flo.
After a few minutes, Dave realized that Flo kept looking at the same spot on the ground near the fence, so he decided to walk over and investigate. He was in for a big surprise. There was a newborn cow on the wrong side of the fence.
The calf was motionless, and Dave worried that it wasn’t alive. He could see the umbilical cord, so he knew that it had just been born. It dawned on him that Flo wasn’t upset at Dave. She was worried about her calf and was trying to ask him to help. That’s right; a mother cow was asking a stranger to help her.
Dave didn’t know very much about cows, but he knew he had to help. He could see that the owners of the farm weren’t home since their truck wasn’t in their driveway. He knew he would have to do something.
