Burger King Throws Shade on Chick-Fil-A for Pride Month

Sometimes it feels like we’ve been talking about this whole Chick-Fil-A homophobia thing forever. In case you haven’t heard of it, Chick-Fil-A has been known to donate to some really skeevy, dangerous anti-LGBTQIA+ organizations. On top of that, they occasionally like to claim that they’ve stopped doing that to try to get back some of their customer base. Then, months after a statement, it’ll come out that they did NOT, in fact, stop their donations.

It’s a wild cycle and like I said, it feels like it’s been going on f o r e v e r. For some people, this stays at the forefront of their minds when choosing where to go out to eat. For others, they mostly forget about it until another wave of awareness sweeps through social media and pop culture. Though I always choose to abstain from Chick-Fil-A, I still value the reminders of why I do. For example, my personal favorite recent Chick-Fil-Shade comes from NBC’s The Good Place.

I mean to say, this WAS my favorite recent Chick-Fil-Shade until now.

Capitalizing on an excellent marketing opportunity, Burger King took to Twitter to deliver a one-two punch at the Chicken Sandwich franchise, saying:

the #ChKing says LGBTQ+ rights!

during #pride month (even on sundays) your chicken sandwich craving can do good! we are making a donation* to @HRC for every Ch’King sold

They embellished the Tweet with some side-eye and a rainbow flag and I. am. here. for. it.

I love that they’re making donations and outwardly supporting the LGBTQ+ community, but I ALSO love that they’re taking an extra shot at Chick-Fil-A because they’re closed on Sundays. That’s just one more reason to get your chicken fix at B’ King – let’s count ’em!

  1. Supporting a worthwhile cause
  2. Open on Sundays (Prime Chicken Sandwich Picnic Times!)
  3. Every meal comes with free side of SASS

Have you had the Ch’King? How does it measure up? Do you make your restaurant choices based on taste, location, ethics or something else? Let us know!
