Brooke Shields Shows Off Surgery Scar in a New Bikini Photo With Daughters on Instagram

Back in January, Brooke Shields fell off a balance board and broke her femur. At age 56, she was rushed to the hospital and underwent not one but two surgeries to help stabilize her leg and hip. She had 1 metal rod placed across her hip and another one inserted so that it starts at the top of her hip and goes down. During the second surgery, 5 rods and a metal plate were inserted to hold her leg in place.

Shields was in the hospital for two and a half weeks. When she finally went home, she developed a staph infection where her IV was inserted. She had to return to the hospital for emergency surgery.

She felt “helpless” at first when she realized she was going to have to learn how to walk all over again, but she was thankful to be alive.

Shields told PEOPLE, “This is my journey, and if it took me breaking the largest bone in my body, then recovery is something I want to share. We have to believe in ourselves and encourage one another. There’s no other way to get through life, period.”

She is holding true on sharing her journey. She shared photos of her rehab on Instagram.

Now that Shields has recovered, she isn’t covering up her battle scars. In a new Instagram post, Shields posed in a bikini with her two daughters. The trio wore suits in a coordinating black and white gingham fabric. The scar on her leg is clearly visible. She captioned the post, “soaking it all in.”

Her followers are happy to see that it looks like she has fully recovered. One person wrote, “Looks like you made a full recovery👏.”

Another comment reads, “Wow!! AH-MAY-ZING!!!🔥”

Do you think Shields’ decision to share her recovery will help motivate other people who have to undergo rehab and live with scars after surgery? Does it surprise you that she’s showing off her scar instead of trying to cover it up?
