Broadway Actor’s Wife Speaks Out After Husband Finally Wakes Up From Coma

Good Morning America

We love good news, and while many people are still battling COVID-19, Nick Cordero is finally on the road to recovery! The Broadway star and TV actor was perfectly healthy when his battle started. At 41 years old, he didn’t fit the mold of someone who would be hit hard by this virus, but yet, that’s just what happened. Thankfully, things are looking up.

Before the coronavirus, Cordero was known as a star in “Bullets Over Broadway,” a role that earned him a Tony Award in 2014. You may have also seen him on stage in “Waitress” and “Rock of Ages.” If you’re more of a TV watcher than a Broadway fan, you may have seen him on the shows “Blue Bloods” or “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

On March 30th, everything changed for the actor. That’s the day he was hospitalized for COVID-19 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His wife, Amanda Kloots, has been keeping friends, family and fans updated about her husband’s condition on Instagram. On April 1st, she wrote a very moving and emotional post asking for prayers and explaining that Cordero was in the ICU and unconscious so that he could get enough oxygen.

My sweet husband needs your prayers please. Nick has been sick for awhile with what we were told last week was pneumonia. Unfortunately we think he was misdiagnosed and we are waiting to hear if this is in fact COVID. He is scared, in the ICU and now unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen. We are all trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is in the best care. I miss him terribly. I’m not allowed there to visit of course and can do nothing to help him. Nick is scared too, this has gone from bad to worse. He isn’t allowed to eat or drink, he is very weak and having a hard time breathing. Elvis and I are feeling completely fine. My hubby is fighting like a champ but this is serious. Please stay home everybody. Thank you to everyone who has been helping us so far you know who are and you are all angels. 🙏🏻

Cordero is still in the hospital, and since being there he has gone through so much, including two mini-strokes and a leg amputation. Kloots hasn’t been allowed to enter the hospital to visit him, but she and her son Elvis go to the hospital everyday anyway, just staying outside. She has been very active on Instagram with updates.

Our last family photo before Nick got sick. What this man has gone through! Nick is 41 years old. He had no pre-existing health conditions. We do not know how he got COVID-19 but he did. He went to the ER on March 30th and intubated on a ventilator on April 1. Since then has he has suffered an infection that caused his heart to stop, he needed resuscitation, he had two mini strokes, went on ECMO, went on dialysis, needed surgery to removal an ECMO cannula that was restricting blood flow to his leg, a faciatomy to relieve pressure on the leg, an amputation of his right leg, an MRI to further investigate brain damage, several bronchial sweeps to clear out his lungs, a septis infection causing septic shock, a fungus in his lungs, holes in his lungs, a tracheostomy, blood clots, low blood count and platelet levels, and a temporary pacemaker to assist his heart. He has spent 38 days now in the ICU. This disease does not only effect old people. This is real. A perfectly healthy 41 year old man! Bring awareness to his story. STAY HOME! FOLLOW GUIDELINES! This journey with Nick has been the hardest thing we’ve ever had to go through. I ask God for a miracle and my Dad reminded me that God is answering my prayer everyday because he is still with us! Nick is a fighter and has not given up. His doctors and nurses have been truly incredible. Thank you @cedarssinai ❤️ We will get our CODE ROCKY! #wakeupnick

Thankfully, things are now looking up. She gave Good Morning America all the details in an exclusive interview. Watch the video below.

We can’t imagine how Cordero will react when he realizes all that he has been through. He has a long road ahead of him, but we’re definitely glad that he is finally awake! We’re sure Kloots will continue to keep the updates coming on Instagram.
