PETA Asks Twitter to Present Best Arguments for Eating Bacon and the Responses Are Savage

There are two types of people in the world: Those who eat bacon and those who don’t.

People who don’t eat bacon have their reasons, from that bacon is too unhealthy and they’re trying to limit fat to that they simply don’t like the taste. But most people who refrain from the crispy, smoky strips do so because they don’t eat animal products.

We have nothing against vegans and vegetarians. In fact, we wholeheartedly encourage wanting to save animal’s lives, of course! But there are some meat eaters that just can’t imagine how someone could give up animal products, especially bacon. And let us tell you, they really don’t do well when you ask them such a painfully obvious question.

Point proven when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the largest animal rights organization in the world, tweeted a very simple tweet regarding people’s consumption of bacon.

PETA decided to try to challenge the world with seven little words: “Present your best argument for eating bacon.”

We’re assuming the idea behind the tweet was to show people that there was no good reason to eat a pig, even if the pig tastes like greasy, crunchy deliciousness (especially when eaten with eggs and coffee—we digress).

Anyway, that’s not where people’s trains of thoughts went at all. In fact, PETA’s tweet backfired in a huge way.

Tons of bacon-loving Twitter users swarmed PETA (or likely, the intern running the PETA Twitter account), and told them—no, YELLED at them—the very easy reasons why they consume bacon.

Needless to say, most people were not pleased. The responses ranged from tame to hilarious to downright anger. Here are some of our favorite replies:

“Is PETA really throwing this softball to a country that literally eats over 600 million pounds of bacon a year? Bacon is a self evident truth.”

“Without it, there would be no pigs in blankets at #Christmas. Basically Christmas dinner would be absolutely pointless. Imagine that… imagine the horror of looking at your turkey dinner with NO PIGS IN BLANKETS.”

“Some give up bacon for religious reasons. I gave up religion for bacon reasons.”

“I’m going to go with the fact that bacon not only tastes great, but it smells like the heavens opening up to get you through the day.”

“Present your best argument for euthanizing dogs instead of finding them good homes?”

“Have you EVER EATEN IT? Argument…over.”

Even some well-knowns got in the action in replying to PETA’s bacon tweet.

“It pisses you off,” wrote Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro.

“What else are you supposed to do with a pig?” said The Blaze’s Matt Walsh.

All very good points made. We’re pretty sure PETA feels pretty silly right about now.

What about you—do you eat bacon? If so, how would you have responded to this tweet? And if you don’t, how do you feel about the Twitter argument that ensued as a result of this tweet? We’d love to get your opinion on this!
