We love to bake, but we don’t always have a lot of extra ingredients in the pantry. Sometimes we want to whip something up that only takes a few ingredients, and we’ve found several ways to do that. We’ve made homemade fudgesicles with just 2 ingredients, and we’ve made mac ‘n cheese with just 3 ingredients.
It’s spring, and we’re in the mood for some comfort food that can double as breakfast or a delicious snack. We’re in the mood for banana bread.
Perhaps banana bread seems like an ambitious baking project, but it’s really not. While a basic banana bread recipe comes together fairly easily, it can’t get any easier than a banana bread recipe that only takes 3 ingredients.
It might seem impossible to bake banana bread with just three ingredients, but it’s not. The One Pot Chef shows us that this simple recipe actually creates a delicious looking loaf of bread.
For this recipe (or any banana bread recipe), it’s best to have very ripe bananas. You know when bananas start turning brown and you’re tempted to throw them away? That’s when they’re extra sweet and perfect for baking. If you don’t have overripe bananas on hand, you can use yellow bananas, or you can wait a few days until they reach the overripe stage.
Besides bananas, this 3-ingredient recipe calls for a can of sweetened condensed milk and self-rising flour. If you don’t happen to have self-rising flour in your pantry, the One Pot Chef has a quick fix, but it will turn the recipe into a 5-ingredient banana bread recipe. Simply add 2.5 tsp of baking powder and a pinch of salt to the 3-ingredient banana bread recipe.

While you could eat this banana bread as-is, we would probably slather it with butter. Or, for an extra special treat that would taste more like dessert, we think peanut butter or Nutella would be exceptional on a slice of this bread. If we wanted to go above and beyond, we also think this bread would make amazing french toast. Can you imagine?
For a fun twist on this easy banana bread recipe, you could use a muffin pan to make banana muffins instead of one big loaf of bread. You would just need to reduce the baking time.
