‘Australia’s Next Top Model’ Star Passed Away At Age 27
Lucy Markovic, a former runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model, has died at the age of 27 following complications from a rare brain condition known as arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Her passing was announced on April 10 via her Instagram Stories per PEOPLE. Her partner shared that she died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
“I regret to inform you that Lucy has passed.”
“She was at peace,” the post continued, adding that she was with family at the time of her death.
“We ask you to please give us space in these hard times,” the post concluded. “May Lucy rest in peace,” alongside an angel emoji.
Markovic rose to national prominence in 2015 when she was just 17, finishing as runner-up on the ninth season of Australia’s Next Top Model. Her success on the show launched a career in international fashion, and she soon signed with Elite Model Management. Over the years, she walked the runway for several of the world’s most prominent designers, including Versace, Givenchy, Victoria Beckham, and Armani.
A native of Sydney, Markovic was known for her striking beauty, magnetic presence, and deep passion for dance and performance. Her death came just days after she underwent emergency surgery on April 2 to treat her AVM, a condition that involves a tangle of blood vessels in the brain that disrupts normal blood flow. After the procedure, she fell into a coma and did not recover. According to the Australia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Lucy shared details about her condition on social media last month in a post that has been deleted. Markovic reflected on her emotions leading into surgery, sharing that she felt “excited, thankful, scared, supported, hopeful,” and ready for whatever came next.
