Schwarzenegger Fans Rejoice–There’s Another ‘Terminator’ Movie in the Works

Schwarzenegger DID say he’ll be back didn’t he?

If you’re a fan of the entire Terminator series, well then guess what? There’s a sixth Terminator in the works, and it looks pretty dang amazing.

The new film, titled “Terminator: Dark Fate,” will of course star Arnold Schwarzenegger himself, along with Linda Hamilton returning as Sarah Connor.

But Hamilton wasn’t really a huge fan of the other sequels, if she’s being honest. “They’re very forgettable, aren’t they? You start something and you’re invested in the franchise, but somehow the characters that you care about weren’t there,” she said.

If you agree with Hamilton, there’s some good news. The plot for Terminator 6 will actually be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Therefore, we can totally forget that the third, fourth and fifth sequel even exist.

“This is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and Terminator 2. And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream,” producer James Cameron said. “Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse. Guess he wasn’t a huge fan either!

Cameron went on to say that due to new film’s R rating—which the first and second were rated as well, but the others were rated PG 13 to reach a wider audience—it packs a lot more into the story and in a short amount of time.

“I think, tonally, what makes this a direct sequel to T1 and T2 is as much about the tone as it is about the narrative: it’s R rated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense, it’s linear,” Cameron said. “The whole story takes place in 36 hours. It’s not this kind of grandiose, complex story. It’s just very focused on the characters, it’s very now, it’s very present and it’s just a fast white-knuckle ride.”

But besides just its plot, Director Tim Miller says that it’s key that Hamilton has agreed to return to the cast. Without her, it wouldn’t have quite had the same impact.

“The fact that Linda came back makes this particular Terminator fresh, this story could only continue with her in the role of Sarah Connor,” he said. “That’s the most important thing for me. Linda reinvented this character in a way that both honors who she was before and brings something new to the role.”

There are however a lot of new faces in the new film as well. New to the cast will include actors and actresses Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes, Diego Boneta and Mackenzie Davis.

Terminator 6 was filmed between June and November 2018. Its release dates will be October 23 in the UK and November 1 in the US.

So how will the plot go and what exactly will it be about? You’ll just have to hit the theaters when it comes out. Luckily, there’s a brand new trailer out to hold us over until then. To watch the new trailer, check out the video below.
