Some people wait their whole lives to get married and have a family. And some want nothing to do with it. And you know what? Both are completely great outlooks on life if they work for that person!
The problem is, people who don’t want to have kids are often judged. People tell them that they’ll probably change their minds or that they’ll regret not having kids. But sometimes, it’s nice to see someone who took that route completely thriving.
We’re talking about actress Allison Janney for example. While the 62-year-old “Mom” star isn’t against settling down by any means, it just wasn’t something that was really in the cards for her. She opened up about it all on a recent episode of the Drew Barrymore Show.
First, she explained how having kids wasn’t ever something she dreamed about, like some other girls did when they were younger. “I wasn’t ever really confident that I wanted to have kids,” Janney said.
She explained that perhaps if the right person came along, that could’ve changed, but that never happened for her. “I think if I had found the right guy [who wanted to have kids] at the right time, I probably would have.”

But that doesn’t mean she’s upset about it. In fact, she says that she’d rather have the life she has now than have settled down with the wrong person and regretted having kids. That would’ve been the worst of all! “I would rather regret not having kids than have kids and regret that,” she said.
Janney went on to talk about all the other reasons why she’s feeling pretty good about being single and child-free in her 60s and how she’s made peace with it. Of course, she still has plenty of life left, and if someone came around at this point, she wouldn’t knock it. It seems no matter how the tables turn, she’ll find peace with her life.
“I’m OK with it. I really am, at this time in my life, getting to know who I am and what I want,” she said. “I’d love to eventually find someone to share my life with, but if it doesn’t happen, I think I’ll be just fine—but it would be nice.”
So is she dating or trying to find her soulmate at all? Ehh, not really—although she did reveal her latest love interest at the moment: “My latest crush is Rip on Yellowstone,” Janney said with a laugh.
In the spirit of getting older, Janney also touched on the fact that she’s embracing her natural grays and is absolutely loving it. “To be able to run my hands through my hair and hopefully sometime a man will be able to run his hands through my hair and appreciate it, it’s just heaven,” she said.
Sounds like she’s doing more than well! Do you know anyone who never settled down or had kids? What is their philosophy on it?
