Actress Andie MacDowell is sharing an honest look at her health journey.
The Four Weddings and a Funeral actress revealed her experience with piriformis syndrome, a condition where the piriformis muscle compresses the sciatic nerve. This leads to inflammation and discomfort, affecting the nerve that extends from the lower back to the feet.
Recently, the actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and talked about “I thought I was gonna have to have a hip replacement.”
The 66-year-old actress shared that her condition worsened after she began overdoing it on her indoor bike.
“It’s not appropriate for my body, and I ended up with bad knees and a bad hip,” she continued. “I thought I was literally falling apart.”
Instead of surgery, MacDowell did special exercises for her seat and hips to prevent flare-ups and she is relatively pain free.
“My knees are good except for aging. They’ve aged.”, MacDowell added.
In addition to adjusting her workout routine, the Groundhog Day star has embraced a more peaceful lifestyle, leaving behind the fast-paced world of Hollywood for the serene surroundings of South Carolina as part of her fresh start.
After her move, the actress is “happier now than I have been in a long time.”
“I’m having the time of my life now, It’s really good.”
