Actor Ron Cephas Jones may be best known for his role on “This Is Us,” where he played William Hill on 45 episodes. Other notable credits include “Luke Cage,” “Across the Universe” and “Half Nelson.” His most recent on-screen performance was on the series “Truth Be Told,” and he also has an upcoming project in post-production called “Genius: MLK/X.”
Unfortunately, Jones will not be able see his most recent project get released. A long-term health issue has taken his life. On IMDB, his cause of death is listed as “pulmonary problems.” He died on August 19, 2023, in Los Angeles. He was 66 years old.
Jones’s representative released a statement about the actor’s death explaining, “Beloved and award-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones has passed away at the age of 66 due to a long-standing pulmonary issue.”
In the statement, his representative praised Jones for “his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness and heart.” Then the statement shared some details about Jones’s career. “He began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance for his role in ‘Clyde’s’ on Broadway. Ron’s inner-beauty and soul was evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award winning performance on ‘This Is Us.'”
Jones is survived by his daughter, actress Jasmine Cephas Jones who was an original cast member in “Hamilton” and who currently plays Ashley Jones on the TV series “Blindspotting.”
Jones started his career on the stage starting in the 1980s. Then, he started acting on screen. During his career, he was rewarded for his hard work and talent with multiple awards including two Emmys for his role on “This Is Us.”
