9 Celebrities Explain Their Reasons For Not Wanting to Have Children
Some people dream about having their own children and feel that their lives are not complete until they have their own mini-me. Sometimes having children is easy, and other times couples go to great lengths to try to conceive.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, some people are positive that they never want to have children. Perhaps they feel that they wouldn’t be good parents or children wouldn’t fit into their lifestyle. There are many reasons that people decide not to have children, and many celebrities are also jumping on the childless bandwagon.
Scroll down to discover the reasons 9 celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Ashley Judd gave for not wanting to be parents.
In her 2011 memoir “All That Is Bitter and Sweet,” Ashley Judd wrote, “I do not need to go making ‘my own’ babies when there are so many orphaned or abandoned children who need love, attention, time and care. I have felt this way since I was at least 18 and I had an argument about it with a childhood friend. I figured it was selfish for us to pour our resources into making our ‘own’ babies when those very resources and energy could not only help children already here, but through advocacy and service transform the world into a place where no child ever needs to be born into poverty and abuse again. My belief has not changed.”
In July 2019, Miley Cyrus told Elle magazine that Mother Nature is “angry,” and, “Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that.”
In 2015, on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Ellen explained that she doesn’t want children because the commitment seems too “long-term,” and she worries that her own children wouldn’t be as amazing as the kids she features on her show. She said, “It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don’t know if I can — it’s too risky. Like, what if I don’t like the kid? What if it turns out that it’s not as cute as I wanted, or as talented? I’m going to compare it to all these kids that I have on the show that are so smart and so funny.”
Chelsea Handler is “not interested” in being a mom. During a 2018 Goop summit, she explained, “Becoming a mother is something that I take so seriously. People need to really want to become a mom.”
In May 2021, Seth Rogan told Howard Stern that he and his wife, Lauren Miller, enjoy not having kids. He thinks they get more joy not having kids than they would get from having kids.
In January 2022, John Cena told Drew Barrymore that, “It’s hard work to balance the time I need to run myself correctly.” He doesn’t have a passion for parenting and feels that a passion for parenting is necessary in order to be a good parent.
John Hamm kept his explanation for not wanting to have kids simple. In 2012, the actor told US Weekly he thinks he would be “a terrible father.”
Megan Mullally and her husband Nick Offerman tried to have children for a year, but they were unsuccessful. They decided not to force the issue, and she seems perfectly okay not being a mom. In May 2017, she told GQ that she “never had a burning desire to have children.”
In June 2018, Alison Brie explained to The Sunday Times that being a mom sounds “stressful.” She reflected on how much she and her husband, Dave Franco, care about their cats and can’t imagine how much more intense it would be if she were caring for children.
