Fame and Flashdance singer Irene Cara has passed away at age 63. (Videos of Below)

Cara was born in 1959, in the Bronx, New York. She was the youngest of five children. Her father was Puerto Rican and her mother, Cuban-American.

As a child, she appeared on TV’s “Electric Company” before appearing in the movies “Aaron Loves Angela” and “Sparkle” as a teenager.

Cara hit it big when she played Coco Hernadez in the 1980 musical “Fame,” a story about a New York High School for the Performing Arts.She sang the title track.After Fame, she was nominated for two Grammy’s and Best Female Pop Vocal Artist.

A few years later, Cara co-wrote the song for “Flashdance… What a Feeling”, her next smash hit. She also received an Oscar and a Grammy for her Flashdance hit.

There were some more hits, such as “Why Me” and “Breakdance.” She later starred in films with Clint Eastwood and Tatum O’Neal.
