7 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on Friday September, 18, 2020, at the age of 87 years old. She was at her home in Washington, D.C., and she was surrounded by her family when she took her last breath. Her death was caused by complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.

While you probably already know Ginsburg as a Supreme Court Justice, there are probably quite a few things about her life that you don’t know. In 2018, a documentary about Ginsburg was released under the title “RBG,” and when that documentary was released, documentarians Betsy West and Julie Cohen sat down for an interview with Sharon Waxman, TheWrap’s Editor-in-Chief.

During the interview, which happened at the Sundance Film Festival where the documentary premiered, West and Cohen shared multiple little known facts about Ginsburg. For example, did you know that she was quite a force to be reckoned with not just in court but also at the gym? Well into her 80s, she liked to do planks and lift weights.

When it comes to her career, it wasn’t an easy start for Ginsburg despite her qualifications. West explained, “And she went out into the working world and could not get a job in a law firm because they said, openly, ‘Oh yeah, she seems really smart, but she’s a woman and we just don’t hire women. So that’s the kind of discrimination she faced and most women faced in that era.  Cut to 10 years later, she was part of an ACLU group that started the Women’s Rights Project. And Ruth Bader Ginsburg had the rather radical idea that the U.S. Constitution should apply to everyone: Men and women”
