5 Simple Home Remedies for Your Stuffy Nose
Fall is fast approaching, and though the changing of seasons can be a beautiful thing, it can also lead to colds and allergy flare-ups. If you’re suffering from a stuffy nose, try any of these simple home remedies to find some quick relief.
Hot Ginger Compress
Just slice up a 3-inch peice of ginger root and add it to a saucepan full of 2 cups of boiling water. Cover the pan and let it soak over low heat for about 20 minutes. Then, carefully soak up the gingery water with a washcloth and, making sure it’s not too hot, apply to your face while laying down (head elevated) for about 15 minutes.
Give Your Face a Massage
A face massage can actually increase circulation to the nasal passage area and help lessen the pain you’re feeling. Just use your fingers to give your sinuses a break.
Using your index fingers, press hard on the outer edge of your nostrils at the base of the nose. Hold for 30 seconds, release, and repeat three or four times.
Sip on Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar works miracles in a lot of ways, and one of the many things it can do is help drain your sinuses. Just mix a teaspoon of this stuff in a glass of water and drink it. It’ll help thin mucus and prevent bacteria growth, which contributes to congestion.
Stay Hydrated
This may sound like a no brainer, but when you’re dealing with nasal congestion, drinking plenty of fluids is what will help most. Staying hydrated helps to thin mucus in the nasal passaged, giving you relief from your stuffy nose. Water is always a good choice, but since warm liquids will help open up congested sinuses, sip on ginger and mint teas as well.
Use Garlic
Garlic’s antibacterial properties can help to alleviate congestion, so when you’re stuffy, add lots of garlic to your favorite meals. You can also try adding fresh garlic in some boiling water and breathing in the steam for several minutes.
