3 Simple Steps for Cleaning Your Dishwasher

When you think of cleaning your home, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? We’re guessing your dishwasher isn’t the first thing you think of to clean. But does the appliance ever come to mind as something that needs cleaning attention?

Even though your dishwasher is an appliance that cleans other things, it too needs some love and care every now and then. Cleaning your dishwasher not only makes it more efficient; it also extends the life of your appliance. And once you clean it, you’ll most likely be amazed at the difference in the way it looks on the inside. One Good Thing by Jillee explains the 3 simple steps needed to clean your dishwasher as well as some other generally helpful dishwasher maintenance tips.

Here are the 3 easy steps you should complete every 6 months or so:

  1. Pull out your bottom rack and make sure that your dishwasher filter area is free of debris and other gunk.
  2. Place a dishwasher-safe measuring cup (or other container) in the top rack. Fill it with white vinegar, then run your otherwise empty dishwasher on the hottest setting.
  3. After the vinegar cycle, sprinkle a handful of baking soda along the bottom of the dishwasher. Run on a short by hot cycle.
