You’ll Need

Roast Chicken With Scallion, Ginger and Lime
– 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
– 8 chopped scallions
– 1/4 cup chopped peeled fresh ginger
– 4 garlic cloves
– 1 teaspoon lime zest
– 1 tablespoon coarse salt, plus more for seasoning
– Ground pepper
– 1 whole chicken (4 to 5 pounds)
– 1 3/4 pounds parsnips, cut into 3-inch pieces
– 12 ounces Brussel sprouts, halved
– 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Slow Cooker Beef Stew
– 2 1/2 pounds beef-stew meat, cut into 1 1/2- to 2-inch cubes
– Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
– 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 6 tablespoons olive oil, plus more if necessary
– 1 cup dry red wine
– 2 1/2 cups homemade or low-sodium canned beef stock
– 8 ounces pearl onions, peeled
– 1 cup canned whole plum tomatoes, crushed
– 5 carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
– 12 ounces white button mushrooms, quartered if large
Giant Almond Crumb Cookie
– 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature, plus more for pan
– 1 1/2 cups finely ground (5 1/4 ounces) blanched almonds
– 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
– 3/4 cup sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon table salt
– 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
