Here’s a First Look at the 230 New Emojis Coming Out in 2019

It’s almost hard to remember a time before texting was so easy and so common. Why waste time leaving a message for someone to call you back when you can just send a text?

One of the best parts about texting is that it is visual. Sure, you can send photos and videos, but we also have to love emojis. If you can relate, get ready, because there are 230 new emojis that have recently been approved by the Unicode Consortium.

That sounds like a lot of emojis, and it is. Of the 230 new emojis, 59 are brand new, and 171 are gender and skin tone variations.

While these 230 emojis are going to be released as part of the Emoji 12.0 set in 2019, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all of them will be coming to your phone anytime soon. It’s up to the individual platforms to decide which emojis to add to your keyboard.

It’s also important to keep in mind that the emojis don’t look the same on every platform. Usually, Emojipedia creates mock ups of the emojis the way they would look on the Apple platform, but even the final Apple designs might look different.

While there are so many new emojis to get excited about, we already have some favorites. In the food category, we know we’re going to be using the new waffle emoji. It’s seriously hard to believe there hasn’t been a waffle emoji before.

As far as animals go, there’s finally a sloth emoji because sloths are awesome. We seriously need to go to Costa Rica. There’s also a flamingo and an orangutan which will be perfect for our next trip to the zoo.

There are multiple new emojis in the 12.0 set that represent disabilities including 2 wheelchairs and people sitting in these wheelchairs. There are also emojis to represent guide dogs and hearing loss.

Another emoji that we love is the new  yawning face. It’s the perfect way to tell someone that their texts are boring…or that you’re tired.
