117 New Emojis Will Be Hitting iPhones in 2020

What did we do in a world before emojis? Express ourselves with actual words instead of icons? It’s just not the same!

Emojis began as mere smiley faces that people used to express different feelings—happy, sad, angry, etc.—and has since evolved into much more than that. Now we have emojis for everything from tacos to flowers and kitty cats.

What a time to be alive, right? We didn’t think they could come out with any more emojis than the hundreds they currently have, but Emojipedia, the main emoji search engine reference website, has just proved us wrong. They recently just made the exciting announcement that they will be releasing 117 new emojis this year!

What else could they possibly release that we don’t already have? Well, lots of things! Get ready for some of these awesome new emojis, also known as Emoji 13.0, below.

Let’s start at the top, shall we? We’ve got the smiling face with a tear, which could be used for someone feeling happily grateful. Then we have a disguised face, presumably used when you’re not feeling quite like yourself. The third emoji in line is a pinched finger gesture, commonly referred to as the “Italian Hand Gesture,” which we’re sure Italians are going to love.

That last one comes in a variety of different skin tone options, as well as many others on the new list. In addition, you’ll also see a Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus emojis that come in different skin tones as well, as well as a Mx. Claus.

Mx. Claus is part of an ongoing effort to create a more consistent set of gender options across the emojis that already exist. Another two that fall into this class are the woman in a tuxedo and man with a veil.

Some of the other current favorites are the ninja, bubble tea, person feeding a baby, people hugging and the teapot. But really, they’re all so good and useful, and we can’t wait for them to come out!

When will that be, you ask? The announcement mentioned that we can expect to see these new emojis on major operating systems in the second half of 2020. Android users will likely see them in August and iOS and macOS users will see them in October or November.
